In the days leading up to your first session
When you book your first session, you'll be prompted to set up your HelloSelf account. This is where all your video sessions will take place and where you can use HelloSelf tools to build on your sessions with your therapist.
You can log into your account through 1) the HelloSelf App on your mobile device or 2) on the web. See below for additional guidance:

- On a desktop computer or laptop: Google Chrome (latest release version)
- On a mobile device or tablets: Google Chrome for Android (latest release version) and Safari for iOS (latest release version)
Top tips
- Where possible, avoid using a work laptop as this may have certain network settings that block video calls taking place on the HelloSelf platform. If you have no other device to use, please contact your work IT department to whitelist HelloSelf. Alternatively, please contact us at techsupport@helloself.com to book a free test call before your session to check that all is working as expected. We recommend that you get in touch with us at least 48 hours before your session is scheduled to take place.
- Please note the use of VPNs may also stop you connecting on the platform with your therapist.
- Avoid using any external cameras or microphones when using HelloSelf web on a desktop/laptop as the platform automatically reverts to the default/internal camera and microphone.
On the day of your session
1) Log into HelloSelf in plenty of time for your session, especially if it is your first.
2) After logging in, you will see your booked appointment. Before your session, we advise you to complete a quick pre-session test to ensure everything is working properly. This only takes a couple of minutes and can be done by clicking on Settings > Call Setup or here. The pre-session test is only available when accessing HelloSelf through the web.
3) When your therapist is ready, they will start or join the call, so please be sure to log in on time. If you are running late, please let your therapist know as soon as possible so they can stay on the call. To join or start the call, select join now, enable your preferred camera and microphone, and select "Start call".
Top tips:
- Make sure you have enough battery and good signal, whether you’re on WiFi or 4g.
- Keep your camera at eye level.
- Make sure the primary light source is not behind you. You may want to close the blinds/curtains if you’re in front of a window.
- Make sure your speakers are not turned up too loud as this can cause an echo.
